The SECO 00016756 is a multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for external turning and grooving operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with a TiAlN/TiN finish via PVD process, it delivers wear resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. The LCMR160404-0400-FT style designation reflects a 0.157 inch maximum cutting width, 0.177 inch cutting height, and a 0.016 inch corner radius. The CP500 grade targets multi-material versatility, making this insert a dependable choice for machinists running mixed-material production schedules.
This insert fits into SECO MDT series toolholders and is suited for both roughing and finishing passes on ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S — covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Its neutral hand orientation and FT chipbreaker make it adaptable across a variety of CNC lathe setups in job shops and production environments. Single-end configuration means the insert is indexed once before replacement.
Designed for use with SECO MDT series toolholding systems. Insert style designation LCMR160404-0400-FT should be cross-referenced against your toolholder specification sheet to confirm seat geometry and clamping compatibility before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked. Always inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as micrograin carbide inserts are brittle under uneven clamping load. Confirm proper seating before resuming cutting operations.
