The SECO 00016403 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for use in MDT series toolholders on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the CP500 grade from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this LCMF-style insert delivers consistent performance across a range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.315-inch maximum cutting width, a 0.216-inch cutting height, and a 0.157-inch full corner radius. The MP chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during grooving and turning operations. Neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for flexible setup configurations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert during scheduled tooling changes.
This insert is engineered for multi-directional turning and grooving applications where a full-radius profile is required. The CP500 micrograin carbide grade with PVD coating is rated for use on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), non-ferrous materials (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and superalloys (S). It is suited to both light and moderate-duty passes in production turning environments where insert consistency across a batch matters. The double-end design allows the insert to be indexed, extending useful service life before replacement.
Designed for use in MDT series toolholders accepting LCMF-style inserts with style designation LCMF3008M0-0800-MP. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and insert pocket geometry before installation.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped, spindle locked, and all energy sources isolated per lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination can affect seating accuracy and surface finish. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
