The SECO 00016401 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a PVD coating, this insert delivers consistent edge integrity and wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It carries an LCMR insert style with a neutral hand orientation and an FT chipbreaker geometry. The cutting height measures 0.219 inches with a maximum cutting width of 0.315 inches (8.00 mm) and a corner radius of 0.031 inches. It is intended for single-end use and features a 7-degree relief angle for efficient chip clearance.
This insert is suited for multi-directional turning and grooving applications in both production and job-shop environments. The CP500 PVD-coated micrograin carbide grade supports cutting in a broad spectrum of workpiece material categories including hardened materials (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous materials (N), steel (P), and superalloys (S). It is commonly installed on CNC turning centers where controlled chip formation and consistent dimensional accuracy are required across high-mix or high-volume runs.
Designed for use in SECO MDT series toolholders that accept LCMR-style inserts with the LCMR300808-0800-FT seat geometry. Confirm toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert.
