The SECO 00015958 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert with the industry-standard designation VCGT332F-ALKX, also identified by ISO code VCGT160408F-AL. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.375 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0315 inch (1/32 inch) corner radius with a sharp cutting edge style. Designed for the VCGT-AL series, this insert targets finishing and light machining operations on aluminum and non-ferrous metals. The positive rake and positive side clearance geometry minimize cutting forces and reduce built-up edge on soft, gummy materials. Licensed HVAC techs and machinists specify this grade for high-speed aluminum work where surface finish and tool life matter.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, profiling, and back turning of non-ferrous metals, primarily aluminum alloys. It suits CNC lathes and turning centers running high surface speeds typical of aluminum finishing passes. The KX grade and AL chip breaker geometry make it well-suited for production environments where consistent chip control and surface quality are required on non-ferrous workpieces. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both right- and left-hand toolholders designed for the VCGT insert style.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for VCGT-style toolholders accepting ANSI size code 332 or ISO size code 160408 inserts. Suitable for material grades N15, N20, and N25 non-ferrous and aluminum applications per the manufacturer grade classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not over-torque. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for damage before each insert change to ensure secure seating and safe cutting performance.
