The SECO 00015937 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert with ANSI designation VCGT331 and ISO code VCGT160404. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The insert belongs to the VCGT-AL series and carries the KX grade, engineered specifically for high wear-resistance performance in non-ferrous and aluminum machining applications. With a positive rake and positive side clearance, it is designed for finishing and light machining operations where sharp, clean cutting edges are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metals, primarily aluminum alloys, in turning, facing, profiling, and back turning operations. The AL chip breaker geometry is optimized for smooth chip evacuation in soft, gummy materials. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.6378 inches and a positive-rake geometry, it suits light-to-moderate material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers in both job-shop and production environments. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for VCGT-AL series toolholders accepting ANSI size code 331 (ISO size code 160404) inserts. Suitable for material grades N15, N20, and N25. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and seating specifications for screw-clamped inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut for the selected operation, and verify correct insert orientation for neutral-hand setups before running the spindle. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges prior to use.
