The SECO 00014983 is a solid carbide milling insert in the XOMX-18 series, designed for use in indexable milling cutters used across metalworking and machining operations. It carries the ANSI and ISO designation XOMX180604R-M10 and is finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating for extended tool life and heat resistance. The insert features a parallelogram shape with a positive 22-degree rake angle and a 15-degree relief angle, delivering clean, efficient cutting action. With 2 cutting edges and a honed edge style, it is suited for high-productivity milling passes on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. Grade F40M with a fine-grain carbide substrate rounds out the core specification.
This insert is intended for professional machinists and tooling technicians running indexable face mills or shoulder mills in production or job-shop environments. It is a right-hand cutting insert held in the cutter body by screw. The M10 chip breaker geometry supports a wide range of workpiece materials and cut depths up to 0.6693 inches, making it a versatile choice for both roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 10. Compatible cutter series include R217.69-18 and R220.69-18.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.69-18 and R220.69-18 indexable milling bodies that accept XOMX-18 series inserts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified for the cutter body to secure the clamping screw to the manufacturer-recommended feel without over-torquing. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
