The SECO 00012879 is a right-hand MVJN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a negative 4-degree rake angle and a 93-degree lead angle, making it well suited for roughing and finishing passes where cutting forces need to be managed through neutral-to-negative geometry. The shank measures 1 inch wide by 1 inch tall with an overall length of 6 inches. This toolholder accepts VNMG 432 inserts secured by a top clamp, a reliable holding method for maintaining insert position under heavy cuts.
This toolholder is used in turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, reflected by its universal primary workpiece material classification. It is a practical choice for job shops and production environments running right-hand cutting operations. The 1-inch-square shank fits standard tool blocks and turret positions sized for that cross-section. Coolant-through capability is not included, so external coolant delivery is required when flood or mist cooling is needed.
Designed to accept VNMG 432 inserts with a compatible insert size code of VN43 and an insert inscribed circle of 0.5 inch. Part of the SECO Multi-Directional Turning (MDT) series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Seat the toolholder securely in the turret or tool block and confirm the shank is fully engaged before tightening clamping screws. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts or repositioning the holder. Verify insert seating and clamp torque according to the machine tool manufacturer's specifications before resuming cutting operations.
