Product Description

The SECO 00009670 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG series, designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a 35-degree diamond shape (V-style), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The MR4 chip breaker geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style is suited for interrupted and continuous cuts in superalloys and titanium. The uncoated 883-grade substrate delivers the edge toughness required when surface coatings would reduce thermal conductivity or cause built-up edge on difficult materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert.

This insert is primarily rated for superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S) and secondarily for steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials (ISO codes M, K, N, H). It is used in back turning, facing, profiling, and standard turning operations. The neutral hand orientation supports use in both conventional and Swiss-style setups. The 35-degree included angle provides a strong cutting edge entry, making it well suited for finishing passes and medium-depth roughing in difficult aerospace and high-temperature alloy applications.

Key Features

  • 883-grade uncoated carbide substrate optimized for superalloys and titanium (ISO S-group)
  • MR4 chip breaker with T-Land cutting edge geometry for controlled chip formation
  • Four usable cutting edges per insert for extended tool life per unit
  • Neutral hand orientation compatible with back turning, facing, profiling, and turning
  • Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock insert holding methods
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ISO code VNMG220408-MR4

Compatibility

Designed for use in VNMG-style insert pockets with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding systems. Industry standard number VNMG432-MR4 applies. Fits toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO VNMG 432 pocket specifications. Verify pocket geometry and chip breaker clearance before installation.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine is powered down and the spindle is fully stopped before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or undertighten. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating the new insert, and confirm the cutting edge orientation matches the intended operation direction.
