The SECO 00009655 is a solid carbide uncoated turning insert in the VNMG-MR4 series, designed for demanding metal removal applications in superalloys and titanium. It carries the ANSI designation VNMG431-MR4 and the ISO code VNMG220404-MR4. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a strong, versatile cutting geometry suited to roughing and medium machining operations. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, this insert handles depths of cut up to 0.8504 inches. The MR4 chip breaker and T-land cutting edge style deliver high wear resistance and extended tool life when cutting difficult-to-machine materials. This is a per-piece item sold in multiples of 10.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers and CNC lathes performing back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning on superalloys and titanium as the primary workpiece materials. Secondary material compatibility extends to ISO material groups M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), and H (hardened materials). The neutral hand designation means it is suitable for both left- and right-hand toolholders. The MR4 chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing through medium machining pass strategies where chip control and edge toughness are both critical. SECO material grades S10, S20, and S30 apply, covering a range from high wear resistance to high toughness depending on the operation.
Compatible with VNMG-style toolholders that accept a negative-rake, 35-degree diamond insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating procedure specified by the toolholder manufacturer for clamp, pin, or lever-lock systems. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to maintain correct geometry and runout.
