The SECO 00009205 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the TPMM 431-46 series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. It features a triangular (60-degree) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius. The cutting edge is honed for sharpness and edge consistency. With a relief angle of 11 degrees and a positive rake geometry, this insert is optimized for light-to-moderate cuts in demanding workpiece materials. It is installed and changed out by machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. Its primary application is in superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S), with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials (ISO codes M, K, N, H). The 46 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during these operations. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.8504 inches, making it effective across a range of roughing and semi-finishing passes in aerospace and high-performance manufacturing applications.
This insert is designed for toolholders that accept TPMM-style inserts with a 0.2031-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Industry standard number TPMM431-46 applies for cross-reference. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions and insert seating before use.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamping mechanism — clamp, pin, or lever lock — is fully engaged before resuming operation. Do not run the insert beyond its cutting edge; rotate to a fresh edge or replace when wear or chipping is observed.
