The SECO 00006002 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120440TR-ME08, manufactured to the F40M grade with a fine grain carbide substrate. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating designed to handle the thermal and abrasive demands of interrupted and continuous milling operations. The insert is parallelogram in shape, right-hand cutting, with a positive 20.1-degree rake angle and a T-Land cutting edge style. The ME08 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow across a broad range of materials and cut depths. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert in compatible indexable milling tool bodies.
This insert is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium in both roughing and finishing applications. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it effective in setups where rigidity is limited or workpiece deflection is a concern. The single-sided design with two cutting edges per insert is typical for face milling, shoulder milling, and contour milling applications in job shop and production environments. The XOMX-12 series geometry is a common choice in general-purpose metalcutting across both manual and CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12 indexable milling tool bodies. Insert size code 120440 fits toolholders accepting the XOMX-12 series insert pocket.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. The insert is secured via a screw-clamp holding method — use the correct Torx or hex key at the manufacturer-recommended torque to avoid pocket or insert damage; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw threads for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Replace both cutting edges before discarding to maximize cost-per-edge efficiency.
