The SECO 00005998 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation XOMX120416TR-M12 in manufacturer grade F40M. It features a parallelogram shape with a 90-degree included angle and a positive rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style, delivering controlled chip formation during face and shoulder milling operations. The PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating extends wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a corner radius of 0.0630 inches and a maximum depth of cut of 0.4567 inches, this right-hand insert is suited to medium-to-finishing passes on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. It is installed by machinists and CNC tool-setters using a screw-clamp holding method.
This insert is designed for milling operations in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron, with secondary suitability for non-ferrous metals. Material application codes P, K, S, and N cover carbon and alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium. The M12 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-duty cutting conditions across this material range. The insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for initial tooling setups as well as scheduled insert replacement programs on compatible cutter bodies.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120416TR-M12 confirms fitment to cutter bodies in the XOMX-12 series requiring a screw-held, right-hand parallelogram insert with insert size code 120416.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool assembly secured or removed from the spindle before inserting or indexing cutting edges. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body manufacturer's specified torque; do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
