The SECO 00005981 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation XOEX120408FR-E06 in manufacturer grade F40M. It is a single-sided, right-hand parallelogram insert from the XOEX-12 series, coated with TiAlN and TiN via a PVD coating process for improved wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert features a positive rake angle of 27.2 degrees, a sharp cutting edge style, and a 15-degree relief angle. With two cutting edges and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch), it is engineered for high-productivity milling operations in machining centers and CNC milling applications. Installation and tool changes are performed by machinists and CNC operators using screw-type insert holders.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Its fine-grain carbide substrate combined with the PVD TiAlN and TiN coating makes it an effective choice for applications demanding consistent edge integrity across a range of workpiece materials. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocketing operations in both roughing and semi-finishing passes where controlled chip formation is required. The E06 chip breaker geometry supports efficient chip evacuation across these material groups.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12 toolholders. The ANSI and ISO code XOEX120408FR-E06 can be cross-referenced against these designations for fitment verification.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine in a full stop, lockout and tagout procedure applied, and all spindle motion confirmed stopped. Use the correct Torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert. Always verify insert orientation for right-hand cutting direction before resuming operation.
