The SECO 00005980 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI designation XOEX120408FR-E06 and manufacturer grade F15M. This single-sided, right-hand parallelogram insert is designed for high-performance milling of hard materials, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating over a fine-grain solid carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and edge stability under demanding cutting conditions. With a positive rake angle of 27.2 degrees and a sharp cutting edge style, it is engineered for clean, efficient material removal in compatible SECO milling cutter bodies. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for milling applications targeting hard materials (ISO material group H) as the primary workpiece, with secondary capability on cast iron (K) and non-ferrous metals (N). It is built for use in SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish milling passes where tight tolerances and surface quality are required. The E06 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in these material groups. Both production shop environments and job-shop setups benefit from this insert geometry.
Designed for use with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12 milling bodies. ISO and ANSI code XOEX120408FR-E06. Insert size code 120408, series XOEX-12.
This insert is installed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians using a screw-hold mounting method into a compatible SECO milling cutter body. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the clamping screw to proper engagement without over-torquing the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure accurate seating and edge runout.
