Product Description

The SECO 00005979 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120408TR-M12 in manufacturer grade F40M. Designed for indexable milling operations, this single-sided parallelogram-style insert features a TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating applied via PVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert uses a T-Land cutting edge style with a positive 10.4-degree rake angle and 15-degree relief angle, producing clean, efficient chip flow across a range of workpiece materials. It is held in the cutter body by a screw-clamp method and is right-hand oriented. Licensed machinists and CNC milling technicians are the primary installers.

This insert is suited for face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose indexable milling applications in production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and superalloys and titanium. Secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The M12 chip breaker geometry supports medium cutting conditions across these material groups. The insert is compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12.

Installation Notes

Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing the new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
