The SECO 00003860 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the SPG4 flat-top series, designed for high-precision metal removal on difficult-to-machine materials. Built to ANSI and ISO standards with an ISO code of SPGN120308 and an industry standard number of SPG422F, this insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch (0.0315 inch) corner radius, and an insert thickness of 1/8 inch. Grade 883 carbide provides the hardness and thermal resistance required for cutting superalloys and titanium in demanding production environments. It is clamped in place and suited for positive-rake toolholders.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, and boring operations, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.4409 inches. Its primary target workpiece material is superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S), with secondary suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials (ISO codes M, K, N, H). The flat-top chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style make it well suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge integrity is critical. It is commonly used by machinists and tooling specialists in aerospace, energy, and precision-component manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in SPG-series clamp-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 1/8-inch thick square insert with clearance code P and tolerance code G. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the clamp and seat pocket are free of chips and debris before torquing the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edge condition and insert seating after the first test pass before committing to full production feeds and speeds.
