The SEAL-TITE 173-06 is a round duct damper collar designed to form a branch take-off connection from a plenum or trunk duct to round pipe or flexible duct. Measuring 6 inches in diameter, this collar installs into a field-cut opening in the duct wall and includes an integrated damper for direct airflow volume adjustment at the branch point. Licensed HVAC technicians and sheet metal contractors use this type of fitting to balance air distribution across zones without adding separate balancing hardware downstream.
This collar is suited for residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC systems where a controlled branch connection is needed off a main plenum or trunk line. The built-in damper allows airflow to be throttled or shut off at the collar itself, making it practical for zoning applications, room-by-room balancing, and seasonal shutoff of unused supply runs. It accepts standard round pipe and flexible duct connections at the 6-inch diameter outlet.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for 6-inch round duct branch connections in residential and light commercial forced-air HVAC systems.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed HVAC technician or sheet metal contractor. Power down the air handling unit and close any relevant zone dampers before cutting into a pressurized duct. Secure the collar firmly to the duct wall using sheet metal screws and seal all edges with UL 181-rated mastic or foil tape in accordance with local mechanical codes. Verify damper blade operation and set airflow balance before returning the system to service.
