The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMX440-14-H is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads in both internal and external applications. Built from submicron-grade carbide, it runs 14 teeth per inch (TPI) and produces 1/2-14 and 3/4-14 NPT thread profiles in a single tool. The 4-flute, right-hand helical design provides efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. With a 0.44-inch cutting diameter and 0.89-inch length of cut, it handles typical NPT pipe thread depths found in manifolds, fittings, and hydraulic components. A bright, uncoated finish makes it well suited for a range of workpiece materials without coating-related compatibility concerns.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers where thread milling is preferred over tapping for tight-tolerance NPT pipe threads. Typical applications include machining threaded ports in valve bodies, hydraulic blocks, pump housings, and fluid-system components in both production and job-shop environments. The 1/2-inch shank diameter fits standard collet and end mill holders commonly found in vertical and horizontal machining centers. At 4.0 inches overall length, it provides adequate reach for most standard workpiece setups without excessive overhang.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers with a 1/2-inch collet or end mill holder; suitable for thread milling 1/2-14 and 3/4-14 NPT thread forms in internal and external configurations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist familiar with thread milling toolpaths and G-code programming for helical interpolation. Secure the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder to the recommended grip depth before operation. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and helical interpolation parameters in the CAM program before cutting; do not use tapping cycles with this tool. Inspect the tool edge condition before each use, as carbide thread mills are sensitive to runout and improper clamping.
