The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR370-12ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-12 UNS threads in a CNC machining environment. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for precision thread milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool features three right-hand helical flutes and an AlTiN+ coating that extends tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. With a 0.37-inch cutting diameter and a 1.2-inch length of cut, this long-reach design handles thread depths that standard-length mills cannot reach. It is installed and operated by CNC machinists and tooling specialists in production or job-shop settings.
This thread mill is suited for internal thread milling applications requiring a 1/2-12 UNS thread form. The long-reach configuration makes it appropriate for deep-hole threading operations in components where clearance is limited. With a 3/8-inch shank diameter and 3.5-inch overall length, it mounts directly into standard collet chucks or shrink-fit holders used in vertical and horizontal machining centers. It is a single-point interpolation tool, meaning one tool mills the full thread form via helical interpolation on a 3-axis or better CNC machine.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation for internal thread milling operations requiring a 1/2-12 UNS thread form with a 3/8-inch shank toolholder.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Secure the 3/8-inch shank in a collet chuck or shrink-fit holder with adequate clamping force before running the spindle. Verify the CNC program uses the correct helical interpolation path and climb-milling direction for the thread specification before the first cut. This tool does not support coolant-through delivery, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is recommended to manage heat and chip removal.
