The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR285-24ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 3/8-24 UNF threads in a CNC machining environment. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and coated with AlTiN+, this tool delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for demanding ferrous and non-ferrous applications. It runs a 0.285-inch cutting diameter with a 1-inch length of cut, giving machinists adequate reach for typical through and blind-hole threading operations. The long-reach design and 3-flute right-hand configuration support smooth chip evacuation and consistent thread form on production and job-shop floors.
This thread mill is applied in CNC milling centers performing internal thread milling on workpieces requiring 3/8-24 UNF thread forms. With a 3.5-inch overall length and long-reach classification, it is suited for applications where standard-length tools cannot access the thread zone. Typical users include machining centers in aerospace, automotive, general manufacturing, and tool-and-die operations. The AlTiN+ coating extends tool life in harder materials and elevated cutting temperatures. The tool requires no coolant-through capability, making it compatible with standard tool holders and flood or mist coolant delivery.
Designed as an OEM-style thread milling tool for CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation, with a 3/8-inch shank diameter for use with standard collet chucks or end mill holders accepting that shank size.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the tool is securely seated in a balanced holder to the correct projection length before running. Helical interpolation programming must be verified in the CNC control before engaging the workpiece. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as carbide thread mills are sensitive to interrupted cuts and improper feeds and speeds.
