The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM290-24HA is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting 3/8-24 UNF threads in both internal and external applications. Built from submicron-grade carbide and coated with AlTiN+, this tool delivers high wear resistance in demanding materials including hardened steels, stainless, and cast iron. With 4 right-hand flutes, a 0.29 inch cutting diameter, and a 0.808 inch length of cut, the TM290-24HA suits CNC machining centers where a single tool must handle both thread forms in one helical interpolation pass. The 5/16 inch shank diameter and 3.5 inch overall length fit standard ER and end-mill collet systems used in most production and job-shop environments.
This thread mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation. It is well suited for job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms working with UNF fastener threads in a variety of workpiece materials. The internal and external thread capability reduces tooling inventory when both thread forms appear in the same part. Typical applications include aerospace components, hydraulic manifolds, and precision mechanical assemblies where UNF thread standards are specified.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers with helical interpolation capability. Accepts a 5/16 inch shank and is compatible with standard ER collet chucks and end-mill holders sized for 5/16 inch tooling.
Installation and operation of this tool requires a qualified CNC machinist or tooling engineer programming helical interpolation cycles. Ensure the spindle and collet are clean and within specified runout tolerances before seating the shank, as excessive runout degrades thread quality and shortens tool life. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet before torquing the nut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for feed rate, spindle speed, and radial depth of cut when generating thread profiles.
