The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM 450-12H is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting 9/16-12 UNC threads in both internal and external applications. Built from submicron carbide grade material, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for precision threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The tool features 4 right-hand flutes, a 0.45 inch cutting diameter, and a 1.0 inch length of cut, making it suitable for through and blind-hole threading where a single-point tap would be impractical or insufficiently rigid. The bright uncoated finish suits a broad range of workpiece materials without coating-compatibility concerns.
This thread mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers running helical interpolation cycles. It is applicable in job shop and production environments where 9/16-12 UNC threaded features are required in components such as structural brackets, mechanical assemblies, and tooling fixtures. The 1/2 inch shank diameter accommodates standard ER and shrink-fit collet toolholders commonly found in vertical and horizontal machining centers. Internal and external thread capability allows a single tool to address both feature types within the same setup.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; accepts standard 1/2 inch collet or shrink-fit toolholders and cuts 9/16-12 UNC thread forms in both internal and external configurations.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool from the toolholder. Use proper collet torque procedures per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Program helical interpolation cycles according to the thread pitch and cutting diameter of the tool; consult the machine control documentation for thread milling cycle parameters.
