The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS SPTM080MLA is a single profile thread mill designed for cutting both internal and external threads in the 4-40 to 4-64 range, covering 40 to 64 TPI. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this tool delivers high wear resistance and heat tolerance in demanding machining environments. The 3-flute geometry produces clean thread forms in a helical interpolation path. With a 0.08-inch cutting diameter and 0.1875-inch shank diameter, this mill is sized for small-diameter threadwork on precision components. Machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, medical device, and general precision machining shops are the primary users.
This thread mill is suited for small-format threading operations on CNC machining centers where a single tool must handle both internal and external thread profiles across the 4-40 and 4-64 thread size range. The compact cutting diameter of 0.08 inches and neck diameter of 0.045 inches make it appropriate for tight-clearance bores and close-tolerance work on aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and similar materials. The 0.25-inch length of cut accommodates standard thread depths for size 4 fastener applications.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; compatible with standard 3/16-inch collet or end mill toolholders. Threads produced conform to the 4-40 and 4-64 Unified thread standards.
Installation and use of this tool requires a CNC machining center with helical interpolation capability programmed for thread milling cycles. Ensure the toolholder is properly torqued to the spindle before operation and that runout is within acceptable limits for the cutting diameter. Verify workpiece fixturing is rigid to prevent chatter at the small cutting diameter. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting up and running thread milling operations.
