The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS PCD-B120500 is a diamond-tipped corner radius boring bar designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It features a 0.12 inch minimum bore diameter, a 0.004 inch corner radius, and a maximum bore depth of 0.5 inches. The bright, uncoated finish preserves dimensional accuracy at the cutting edge. With a 3/16 inch shank diameter and a 2 inch overall length, this bar is suited for small-bore, tight-tolerance work where surface finish and dimensional control are critical. Machinists and toolroom technicians working with hardened materials, composites, or high-silicon aluminum will find the PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tip appropriate for demanding finishing passes.
This boring bar is used in production and toolroom environments where small internal diameters must be held to tight tolerances. It is well matched to finish-boring operations on parts made from abrasive or non-ferrous materials such as aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and carbon fiber composites. Right-hand cut orientation makes it compatible with conventional spindle rotation on standard turning equipment. It is typically applied in applications requiring a controlled corner radius break rather than a sharp edge at the bore entrance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for boring bar holders accepting a 3/16 inch round shank on CNC and manual turning centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or adjusting the boring bar in the tool holder. Ensure the shank is clamped securely with appropriate set screws to the specified holder bore; inadequate clamping on small-shank boring bars can cause chatter and tool pull-out. Do not exceed the recommended maximum bore depth of 0.5 inches, as overhang beyond rated depth increases deflection and reduces surface finish quality.
