The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS HB210LA is a helical boring bar ground from submicron-grade solid carbide and finish-coated with AlTiN+. It is designed for internal boring operations on CNC lathes, turning centers, and manual lathes where small-diameter precision work is required. The bar handles a minimum bore diameter of 0.21 inches and reaches a maximum bore depth of 1 inch. The 3/16-inch shank diameter fits standard tool holders sized for that bore, and the 3-inch overall length suits compact machine envelopes. Right-hand cutting geometry makes it compatible with conventional spindle rotation on most turning setups. Machinists and tool-room operators working in tight-tolerance applications select this bar for its rigidity and coating performance at small diameters.
This boring bar is suited for small-bore internal turning and finishing operations in job shops, production environments, and tool rooms. It performs in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where the AlTiN+ coating provides thermal and wear resistance. Typical applications include bore finishing on hydraulic components, valve bodies, and precision mechanical assemblies where bore diameter and surface finish tolerances are tight. The helical flute geometry aids chip evacuation, which is a particular concern at depths approaching the 1-inch maximum. Installation and operation require a rigid setup to minimize deflection in the 3/16-inch shank.
Designed for use in CNC and manual turning centers equipped with tool holders accepting a 3/16-inch shank diameter boring bar. Confirm holder bore size and minimum bore clearance before installation.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and energy-isolated state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the 3/16-inch shank firmly in the tool holder to the holder manufacturer's specified clamping method, minimizing overhang to reduce deflection. Avoid exceeding the 1-inch maximum bore depth, as doing so risks deflection and tool damage. Inspect the cutting edge and coating condition before each use and replace the bar when chipping or coating breakdown is observed.
