The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS GT087-6 is a solid carbide, right-hand grooving tool engineered for internal grooving operations in bored holes. Built from submicron carbide grade material, it delivers consistent edge retention and dimensional accuracy in demanding machining environments. The tool accepts a minimum hole diameter of 0.375 inches and cuts a groove width of 0.040 inches, with a projection of 0.110 inches. At an overall length of 2.5 inches and a shank diameter of 0.375 inches, it is sized for compact, precision boring applications. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes or manual turning centers are the primary users of this tool.
The GT087-6 is suited for internal grooving in small-bore applications where tight groove geometry and minimal deflection are required. Typical use cases include snap-ring groove cutting, undercut machining, and groove profiling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with conventional forward-turning spindle rotation. With a shank length of 2.125 inches and a maximum hole depth capacity of 0.375 inches, this tool is well matched to short, precise internal groove operations in both production and prototype machining contexts.
Designed as a right-hand internal grooving tool suitable for standard 3/8 inch shank tool holders used in CNC lathes and manual turning centers capable of accepting solid carbide boring-style tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state before tool changes. Secure the shank fully within the tool holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth to minimize deflection and chatter during cutting. Verify groove width and projection dimensions against the workpiece drawing before initiating the first pass. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or wear before each use, as carbide tooling can fail without visible warning if run beyond service life.
