The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS GT063-16A is a solid carbide retaining ring grooving tool designed for internal groove cutting in precision machining applications. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for consistent groove geometry in hardened and abrasive workpiece materials. The tool cuts in the right-hand direction with a 0.063 inch groove width and a 0.110 inch projection, making it well suited for cutting retaining ring grooves in small-bore applications. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 5/16 inch shank diameter, it mounts in standard collet chucks and toolholders used on CNC lathes and machining centers. Machinists and toolroom professionals specify this tool for applications demanding close-tolerance groove placement and repeatable depth control.
This grooving tool is intended for internal retaining ring groove applications where minimum hole diameter is 0.312 inch and maximum hole depth does not exceed 1.0 inch. The 1.5 inch shank length provides adequate clearance for through-bore and blind-bore work within those depth limits. It is well matched to CNC turning operations producing grooves for snap rings and retaining ring seats in small hydraulic components, precision shafts, and bored housings. Right-hand cutting geometry is standard for conventional spindle rotation on most turning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC lathes and turning centers equipped with collet chucks or toolholders accepting a 5/16 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the 5/16 inch shank firmly in a collet chuck or toolholder to the full shank engagement depth before use. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all axes are at a safe home position before inserting or removing the tool. Do not exceed the stated maximum hole depth of 1.0 inch, as overreaching the projection limits can cause tool deflection or breakage.
