The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB63 is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision internal boring operations on small-diameter workpieces. Machined from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance needed for tight-tolerance work in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The uncoated finish suits applications where dimensional predictability matters more than surface lubricity. With a 0.06 inch minimum bore diameter and a 1/8 inch shank, this bar handles micro-boring tasks that larger tooling cannot reach. Right-hand cutting geometry makes it compatible with conventional lathe and boring mill setups. Overall length is 1-1/2 inches, keeping overhang minimal and chatter controlled at depth.
The BB63 is suited for CNC lathe, manual lathe, and small boring mill operations where the workpiece bore diameter starts at 0.06 inches and depth does not exceed 3/8 inch. Typical applications include precision watch components, medical device parts, hydraulic valve bodies, and instrumentation housings where small internal diameters require consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy. A licensed machinist or toolroom operator handles installation and setup. The 1/8 inch shank fits standard small-bore tool holders and collet-style boring head systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for small-bore internal turning operations requiring a 1/8 inch shank boring bar with right-hand radial relief geometry.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1/8 inch shank firmly in the tool holder or collet to the appropriate clamping specification for the holder manufacturer before engaging the spindle. Verify runout and tool stick-out before taking the first pass, as excessive overhang beyond the rated bore depth will increase deflection and reduce surface finish quality. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or adjusting the boring bar.
