The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB3712 is a radial relief boring bar designed for internal diameter machining operations requiring tight tolerances and consistent finish quality. Built from submicron solid carbide, this bar delivers the rigidity and wear resistance needed for precision boring in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It has a minimum bore diameter of 0.373 inches and a maximum bore depth of 1.25 inches. The 3/8-inch shank diameter and 2.5-inch overall length make it well suited for small-bore applications on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Right-hand cut geometry is standard. The uncoated finish is appropriate for applications where coating adhesion or dimensional buildup is a concern.
This boring bar is used in production and job-shop machining environments for boring, back-boring, and internal profiling passes on small-diameter features. Typical applications include bore finishing on turned components, fitting preparation, and precision ID work where carbide rigidity is required to minimize deflection and chatter. The radial relief geometry supports clean chip evacuation in confined bore conditions. Machinists working with CNC lathes, turret lathes, or manual turning equipment will find this bar appropriate for short-to-medium overhang setups within its rated depth.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use boring bar for standard 3/8-inch shank boring bar holders used in CNC and manual turning applications requiring a minimum bore diameter of 0.373 inches.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Secure the shank firmly in the tool holder to the holder manufacturer's specified clamping torque to prevent pullout during cutting. Verify bore depth and overhang against the rated 1.25-inch maximum depth before commencing a cut. Inspect the cutting edge for chipping or wear before each setup.
