The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB226 is a radial relief boring bar precision-machined from submicron-grade solid carbide. It delivers a minimum bore diameter of 0.22 inches and a maximum bore depth of 0.75 inches, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance internal turning operations on small-diameter bores. The 1/4-inch shank diameter and 2-inch overall length keep the tool compact and rigid, reducing chatter during cuts. The uncoated carbide construction provides consistent edge integrity across a range of workpiece materials. Right-hand cut geometry is standard. This bar is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
The BB226 is designed for small-bore internal machining applications where precision and rigidity are critical. Its radial relief geometry is appropriate for finish boring and light material removal in residential and commercial machine shops, toolrooms, and production environments. The compact overall length suits Swiss-style and small-footprint CNC lathe setups where clearance is limited. No coating is applied, which is preferred in applications where base carbide edge sharpness is a priority over extended tool life in abrasive materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard boring bar for CNC lathes and manual turning centers accepting a 1/4-inch shank tool holder.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the lathe powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the 1/4-inch shank in a compatible tool holder with appropriate clamping torque per the tool holder manufacturer's specifications. Verify bore depth clearance before commencing a cut to avoid tool or workpiece contact outside the intended engagement zone. Follow applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide tooling, as edges are sharp and carbide is brittle under impact.
