The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB224 is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision internal turning and bore finishing operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Machined from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for tight-tolerance work in small-diameter bores. The right-hand cutting direction suits standard spindle rotation setups. With a 0.22-inch minimum bore diameter and a 0.25-inch shank diameter, this bar handles small-bore applications where rigidity and concentricity are critical. Overall length is 2 inches. The uncoated carbide finish makes it suitable for a wide range of workpiece materials without coating interference.
This boring bar is intended for use in precision machining environments including job shops, tool rooms, and production turning operations. It is well suited for finishing passes in small internal diameters where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives. The 0.5-inch maximum bore depth keeps the application focused on shallow bores requiring a rigid, compact tool. Machinists and CNC operators working with aluminum, brass, steel, and similar machinable materials will find the submicron carbide grade appropriate for their finishing requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit boring bar for CNC lathes and manual turning centers accepting a 0.25-inch round shank boring bar holder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before installing or adjusting the boring bar in the toolholder. Ensure the shank is clamped securely and that tool overhang does not exceed what is needed for the bore depth to maintain rigidity and minimize chatter. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and running proving cuts.
