The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB2212 is a radial relief boring bar machined from submicron solid carbide for internal diameter turning and boring operations. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.22 inches and a maximum bore depth of 1.25 inches, this bar is built for close-tolerance work in small-bore applications. The right-hand cutting direction and uncoated carbide substrate make it well-suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where sharp edge retention and dimensional accuracy are critical. The 0.25-inch shank diameter and 2.5-inch overall length keep the tool compact and rigid in the toolholder. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production environments are the primary installers.
This boring bar is designed for use on CNC lathes, manual lathes, and machining centers capable of holding a 0.25-inch round shank. It fits standard boring bar holders and quick-change toolposts configured for that shank size. The submicron carbide grade provides fine grain structure and improved edge strength, making it appropriate for precision internal boring passes where surface finish and diameter tolerance are priorities. It is commonly used in low-to-medium volume production runs as well as toolroom work requiring tight bore tolerances in small diameters.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new installation for any toolholder or boring bar block accepting a 0.25-inch round shank boring bar with right-hand cut orientation.
Installation is performed by machinists on CNC or manual lathes with a compatible 0.25-inch boring bar holder. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or adjusting the bar in the toolholder. Ensure the shank is clamped securely and that the cutting tip is set at or very near the spindle centerline to avoid chatter and premature edge wear. Consult the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for minimum clamping length to maintain rigidity at the stated bore depth.
