The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB1812 is a radial relief boring bar machined from submicron-grade solid carbide for precision internal turning and boring operations. It cuts right hand and is designed to hold tight tolerances in small-diameter bores. The 3/16-inch shank diameter and 2-inch overall length make it well suited for short-run and production boring where rigidity and dimensional accuracy are critical. The uncoated carbide surface supports a wide range of cutting fluids and is compatible with standard carbide-grade insert geometries. Machinists working on CNC lathes and manual turning centers will find the geometry straightforward to set up and qualify.
This boring bar is intended for applications requiring a minimum bore diameter of 0.185 inches and a maximum bore depth of 1.25 inches. It is a practical choice for internal diameter finishing, shoulder boring, and light roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The radial relief geometry reduces interference in tight bore entries and helps maintain surface finish at depth.
Designed as a direct-fit boring bar for CNC turning centers and manual lathes that accept a 3/16-inch shank diameter tool holder, where right hand internal boring operations are required.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist. Secure the shank firmly in a compatible boring bar holder, ensuring minimum overhang beyond the holder to reduce chatter. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or adjusting tooling. Verify bore alignment and runout before engaging the cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
