The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB103 is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision internal turning and bore finishing operations on small-diameter holes. Machined from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work in hardened materials and difficult-to-machine alloys. The right-hand cutting geometry suits standard CNC and manual lathe setups. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.105 inches and a maximum bore depth of 0.375 inches, the BB103 covers a range of small-bore applications where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the primary objectives. The 0.125-inch shank diameter and 1.5-inch overall length make it compatible with standard small-bore toolholders.
This boring bar is used in precision machining environments including job shops, production facilities, and tool rooms. It is suited for turning centers, manual lathes, and Swiss-type machines working on small-diameter internal features in components such as medical parts, hydraulic fittings, and instrumentation hardware. The uncoated carbide finish makes it particularly effective for non-ferrous metals, plastics, and other materials where coating buildup could affect dimensional control. A licensed machinist or CNC operator is the typical end user for this tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling option for standard 0.125-inch shank boring bar holders used in small-bore internal turning applications.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Secure the shank firmly in the toolholder to the holder manufacturer's specified clamping method, and verify runout before taking a cut. Avoid excessive overhang beyond the rated bore depth, as solid carbide bars are brittle and susceptible to breakage under bending loads.
