The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS B230700 is a solid carbide boring bar designed for precision internal diameter machining on lathes and turning centers. Built from submicron-grade carbide in an uncoated finish, it delivers tight tolerances and consistent surface finishes in small-bore applications. The right-hand cutting configuration suits standard spindle rotation in most CNC and manual turning setups. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.23 inches and a maximum bore depth of 0.7 inches, it is well suited for short, small-diameter bores where rigidity and accurate chip clearance are critical. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This boring bar fits applications requiring precise small-bore finishing or roughing passes in materials compatible with uncoated submicron carbide tooling. Its 5/16-inch shank diameter fits standard boring bar holders and quick-change toolposts configured for that shank size. The 2.5-inch overall length keeps the tool compact, reducing overhang and improving rigidity during cuts. Typical use cases include production turning of small hydraulic fittings, valve bodies, bushings, and similar precision components where bore diameter control is essential.
Designed for use in boring bar holders and quick-change toolposts accommodating a 5/16-inch shank diameter on CNC or manual lathes and turning centers.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle stopped and the machine in a safe, locked-out state. Secure the shank fully in the holder to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth to minimize deflection during cuts. Inspect the carbide tip for chipping or wear before each use, as submicron carbide can fracture if a damaged tool is run under load. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speed, feed, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material.
