The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS B230500A is a solid carbide boring bar designed for internal diameter machining operations requiring precision and rigidity. Built from submicron-grade carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this bar delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance in ferrous and hard-material applications. It features a right-hand cutting direction, a 5/16-inch shank diameter, and a 2.5-inch overall length. The minimum bore diameter is 0.23 inches with a maximum bore depth of 0.5 inches. This tool is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC lathes and boring mills.
This boring bar is suited for small-bore internal turning applications in precision machining environments, including job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms. The compact geometry and submicron carbide construction make it appropriate for tight-tolerance bores in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. Its right-hand cut orientation is standard for conventional lathe setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit boring bar for toolholders and boring bar sleeves accepting a 5/16-inch round shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth before operation, and ensure all set screws are properly tightened before starting the spindle. Confirm the cutting direction matches your lathe configuration before mounting. Handle carbide tooling with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge during setup.
