The SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC LR3D16L is a 3-pole thermal NEMA overload relay rated for 9 to 13 amps at 690 volts AC. It provides motor overload protection by sensing excess current draw through a thermal bimetal element, tripping the circuit before sustained overcurrent conditions damage the motor windings. Trip Class 20 timing means the relay will trip within 20 seconds at 7.2 times the full-load ampere setting under cold start conditions. Licensed electricians and industrial maintenance technicians install this device as part of a motor starter assembly in commercial and light industrial control panels.
The LR3D16L is designed for use in motor control applications where reliable overload protection is required. It mounts directly to compatible contactors, making it a straightforward component in a complete motor starter setup. It is suited for both new installations and field replacement in existing motor control assemblies operating on three-phase or single-phase systems within its rated current range. The relay is appropriate for HVAC equipment, pumps, compressors, and similar motor-driven loads.
Designed for direct use with LC1D12, LC1D18, LC1D25, LC1D32, and LC1D38 contactors as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements and local codes. Disconnect and lock out all power to the motor control center or panel before handling the overload relay or the contactor it mounts to. Verify the relay current adjustment dial is set to match the motor nameplate full-load ampere rating before energizing the circuit. Do not bypass the overload relay for test purposes under load conditions.
