The SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC LR3D12L is a three-pole thermal NEMA overload relay rated for 5.5 to 8 amps at up to 690 VAC. It uses thermal sensing to monitor motor current and trip the contactor circuit before sustained overcurrent conditions damage motor windings or connected equipment. Trip Class 20 means the relay will trip within 20 seconds at 7.2 times the full-load amp setting, which suits standard squirrel-cage induction motors in HVAC, pump, and industrial motor-control applications. Electricians and industrial controls technicians install this relay as part of a complete motor-starter assembly.
The LR3D12L is intended for use in motor starter assemblies built around TeSys D-series contactors in residential, light commercial, and industrial control panels. It mounts directly to compatible LC1D contactors without separate hardware, forming an IEC-style combination starter rated for 690 VAC systems. Typical applications include compressor starters, pump motor circuits, conveyor drives, and fan-motor assemblies where overcurrent protection is required by NEC Article 430. The adjustable amp range of 5.5 to 8 amps allows the installer to set the relay to match the motor nameplate full-load amp rating.
Confirmed compatible contactors: LC1D09, LC1D12, LC1D18, LC1D25, LC1D32, and LC1D38. Designed as a direct-mount overload relay for TeSys D-series combination starters.
Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with NEC Article 430 and all applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the motor-control panel before removing or installing the overload relay. Set the amp dial to match the motor nameplate full-load amp rating before re-energizing. Do not bypass or jumper the overload relay contacts as a troubleshooting shortcut.
