The SANDVIK COROMANT 8248664 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading M4 x 0.70 metric holes in demanding machining applications. Part of the CoroTap 300 series, this tap features a 3-flute right-hand spiral design with a 48-degree helix angle that efficiently evacuates chips up and out of the hole during cutting. Manufactured from powdered metal and coated with FeN for extended tool life, it is built for use in blind and semi-bottoming hole applications. The D4 thread limit and 6H class of fit make it suitable for standard metric thread tolerances. Licensed machinists and tooling professionals install this tap in CNC machining centers and production tapping setups.
This tap is rated for use across a broad range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The 48-degree helix angle is particularly effective in stainless steel and high-temp alloys where chip control is critical. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes, making it a strong fit for tight-tolerance components in aerospace, medical, and general manufacturing environments. The overall length of 54.1 mm and 7 mm thread length suit compact fastener applications.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per material application codes P, M, K, N, and S. Part of the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTap 300 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician using a CNC machining center, tapping head, or rigid tapping setup. Ensure the spindle and workpiece are properly secured and that correct tapping speeds and feeds for the workpiece material are programmed before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded to prevent galling, particularly in stainless steel. Do not exceed the recommended tapping depth of 17 mm for this tap.
