The SANDVIK COROMANT 8232387 is a carbide turning insert in the CoroTurn Prime series, designed for high-performance external turning operations. The insert carries a CVD-applied TiCN + Al2O3 + TiN multilayer coating under manufacturer grade 2025, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous or interrupted cuts. It features an irregular insert shape designated CP-B, with 8 cutting edges per insert, a 12.00 mm inscribed circle (0.4724 inches), and a 0.80 mm (0.0315 inches) corner radius. The M5 chip breaker geometry is paired with a positive rake angle of 7 degrees and a neutral hand orientation. Installation and tool changes are handled by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is optimized for machining stainless steel (ISO material code M), where edge stability and chip control are critical. The CoroTurn Prime CP-B geometry enables both axial and radial cutting paths, making it suitable for finishing and semi-finishing passes on stainless workpieces in both conventional and multi-task turning setups. The screw and clamp holding method ensures rigid seating in compatible CoroTurn Prime toolholders. The insert thickness is 6.00 mm (0.2362 inches), and the hole diameter is 5.16 mm (0.2030 inches) for toolholder alignment.
Designed for use in CoroTurn Prime CP-B series toolholders that accept the CP-B1208 insert size. Intended primarily for stainless steel (ISO M-material) turning applications. Verify toolholder seat and clamping specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure. Power down and de-energize the machine tool before changing inserts, and confirm the insert seats fully and evenly in the pocket before resuming operation. Do not exceed the cutting parameters specified in the grade 2025 application data for stainless steel. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or contamination each time the insert is indexed.
