The SANDVIK COROMANT 8038697 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut, and a 3-flute geometry, this end mill delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean square shoulder. The variable helix and variable index design reduce harmonic vibration during cutting, which translates to improved surface finish and longer tool life. A ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating enhances wear resistance and is particularly suited for non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, brass, and copper. It measures 5 inches in overall length with a 0.5-inch shank diameter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
This end mill is intended for single-end use in CNC machining centers, milling machines, and similar equipment where precise square-shoulder milling is required. It is right-hand cutting with right-hand flute direction and is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry. The CoroMill Dura series targets demanding production environments where tool stability and consistent results across aluminum and other non-ferrous material grades are priorities. Material grade designation is N1BZ, indicating optimization for non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill within the SANDVIK COROMANT CoroMill Dura series. Compatible with standard 1/2-inch collets, end mill holders, and hydraulic chucks sized for a 0.5-inch shank diameter on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Before mounting, confirm the spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris to ensure proper runout. Secure the shank fully within the tool holder to the recommended gauge-line depth before tightening. Always verify spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut settings against the tool manufacturer recommendations for the specific workpiece material before initiating a cut.
