The SANDVIK COROMANT 8036234 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Part of the CoroMill Dura series, it features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 1.25 inch length of cut, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that protects the cutting edge and reduces stress concentrations at part corners. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with variable helix and variable index angles helps suppress chatter and improve surface finish at higher feed rates. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions. This tool is single-end and centercutting, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling. Qualified machinists and CNC operators install and run this end mill in production and job-shop environments.
The 8036234 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys where edge strength and tight radii control are required. The 3 inch overall length and straight cylindrical 0.5 inch shank fit standard ER, hydraulic, and shrink-fit toolholders commonly found on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The CoroMill Dura material grade X1BH is optimized for general-purpose to difficult-to-machine materials, making this end mill a practical choice for profiling, contouring, and finish passes where corner breakdown is a concern.
Designed as an OEM CoroMill Dura series replacement suitable for standard 0.5 inch straight cylindrical shank toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. No specific machine model compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered off and the spindle locked before changing tooling. Ensure the shank is fully seated and properly torqued in the toolholder per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the collet or chuck for runout before commencing cuts, as excessive runout accelerates wear on carbide end mills. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during setup and operation.
