The SANDVIK COROMANT 8021213 is a WNMG-style carbide turning insert designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation WNMG 08 04 08-MR 4415 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert has a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313 inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. Manufacturer grade 4415 is a coated carbide grade suited for steel and cast iron applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians as a replaceable cutting edge in a compatible WNMG toolholder.
The 8021213 is intended for turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, consistent with its ISO P primary and ISO K secondary material group ratings. It is appropriate for medium finishing to roughing passes where a 0.0313 inch corner radius provides a balance of edge strength and surface finish. The WNMG-MR chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip flow in continuous and interrupted cuts on production turning equipment. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profile turning in a production or job-shop environment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for WNMG-style clamp and screw toolholders accepting an 08 04 08 insert size. Compatible holders must accommodate a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and WNMG seating geometry per ISO standards.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures observed. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. This work is typically performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician.
