The SANDVIK COROMANT 8021008 is a CVD-coated turning insert in ISO designation WPMT 02 01 04-PF 4415, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a three-layer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied by chemical vapor deposition, delivering a hard wear surface with thermal barrier properties suited to continuous and interrupted turning operations. It features a 0.156-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. The PF chipbreaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments install this insert as part of a toolholder system using a clamp or screw holding method.
This insert is suited for turning applications on cast iron and similar K-category workpiece materials, as indicated by the secondary material code K in its specification. The WPMT-PF series is used in light to medium turning passes where controlled chip formation and coating durability are priorities. The neutral hand design allows use in a range of toolholder orientations without left- or right-hand restriction. It fits standard WPMT-style pockets and is appropriate for both roughing passes at conservative depths and finishing passes requiring tight surface finish control. Typical environments include job shops and production lines running ferrous and non-ferrous components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for WPMT-style toolholder pockets accepting size code 1.211 inserts with a clamp or screw holding method, consistent with the WPMT-PF series specification.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing inserts, and follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance for the specific clamp or screw style in use. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability. Do not exceed the feed rate and depth-of-cut parameters specified in the cutting data for grade 4415 to avoid premature edge failure.
