The SANDVIK COROMANT 8021005 is a solid carbide turning insert carrying ISO designation TPMT 16 T3 04-PF 4415. It features a triangular insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.0156 inch corner radius. The insert is manufactured to tolerance code M and clearance code P, and it is applied by clamp or screw holding methods. A CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN over the carbide substrate extends wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and semi-continuous turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators use this insert for finishing to medium roughing passes on steel workpieces.
This insert is designed primarily for turning steel workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code P and secondary material code K, which covers cast iron applications. It belongs to the TPMT-PF series and carries manufacturer grade 4415, a CVD-coated grade suited to stable cutting conditions at moderate to high cutting speeds. Typical applications include external turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in production machining environments. The PF chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during finishing cuts at lower feed rates.
Designed for use in standard TPMT-style toolholders that accept triangular inserts with clearance code P and tolerance code M. Compatible with turning operations on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces per the manufacturer grade 4415 specification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard insert indexing procedures on CNC or manual lathes. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before securing the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines for the clamping screw to avoid insert fracture or improper seating.
