The SANDVIK COROMANT 8021003 is a TPMT-style indexable turning insert in the TPMT-PM series, grade 4415, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1250-inch thickness, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert suits finishing to light roughing passes. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholders. Installation and setup are performed by machinists and CNC operators in production machining environments.
This insert is suited for turning applications where CVD-coated carbide grades perform well, including work on cast iron and similar materials indicated by the K secondary workpiece material code. The triangular insert shape (ISO code T) with an 11-degree relief angle and TPMT geometry is common in general-purpose turning of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It is held in place using either a clamp or screw clamping method, depending on the toolholder configuration. The PR chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation across a range of feed rates and depths of cut typical of finishing and semi-finishing operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for TPMT-style toolholders that accept a 0.25-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with clamp or screw retention. Confirm toolholder insert seat dimensions and clamping method before ordering.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque driver or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert — do not over-tighten screw-lock configurations. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before installing a new insert. Verify grade and geometry selection against the workpiece material and programmed cutting parameters before resuming operation.
