The SANDVIK COROMANT 8020973 is a round (RCMT) indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ISO code RCMT 12 04 00-M0 and offered in grade 4415, this insert features a tri-layer CVD coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN applied in sequence to deliver wear resistance, thermal barrier protection, and oxidation resistance at the cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 0.5000 inches and the corner radius is 0.2500 inches. The neutral hand orientation and round insert shape make it well-suited for profiling, facing, and contour turning where full 360-degree edge utilization is required.
This insert is intended for turning applications where secondary workpiece material classification K is applicable, indicating suitability for cast iron, hardened materials, and non-ferrous workpiece families per ISO material code convention. The RCMT-M0 chip breaker geometry and 7-degree relief angle support stable cutting at moderate to higher surface footage. It is typically installed by CNC machinists and turning center operators in precision machining shops, tool and die environments, and production turning cells. The clamp-and-screw holding method provides rigid seating in compatible RCMT toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for RCMT-style toolholders accepting a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle round insert with clamp-and-screw retention.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and zero-energy-lock the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid insert seat damage; do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and prevent premature edge failure.
