The SANDVIK COROMANT 8019711 is a solid carbide turning insert designated SNMG 12 04 12-XM 4425, engineered for steel turning applications requiring a balance of wear resistance and toughness. The insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which builds thermal resistance and edge durability during extended cuts. It carries a square insert shape (S), negative side clearance, and a neutral hand orientation. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0469-inch corner radius, this insert suits roughing and medium machining operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC toolroom technicians on turning centers and lathes using clamp or screw holding methods.
This insert is intended for primary use on steel workpiece materials (ISO material group P), with secondary suitability for cast iron applications (ISO material group K). The SNMG-XM series chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes, making it a practical choice for production turning of low-to-medium alloy steels and carbon steels where consistent chip control and edge life are priorities. It is sold individually and is subject to a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for toolholders accepting SNMG 433 (ANSI) or SNMG 120412 (ISO) style inserts with negative side clearance and clamp or screw holding. Compatible primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary compatibility is cast iron (ISO K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw or top clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and avoid edge chipping on first engagement.
