The SANDVIK COROMANT 8019630 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. It is manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, corresponding to manufacturer grade 4425. The MF chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation during finishing and medium-finish turning operations. Installation and use is performed by machinists and CNC turning technicians working in production and job shop environments.
This insert is built for turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. The T-Max P series designation reflects its suitability for external turning with stable, consistent depth-of-cut conditions. The MF chip breaker excels at light-to-medium feeds where chip control and surface finish are priorities. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness are standard VNMG 160408 dimensions, fitting toolholders designed for that ISO insert size code. Typical applications include OD turning of medium-carbon steels, alloy steels, and gray or ductile cast iron components.
Designed for use in VNMG 160408-compatible toolholders that accept clamp or screw holding methods. Primary workpiece material is steel; secondary workpiece material is cast iron. Part of the Sandvik Coromant T-Max P series for external turning.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before handling or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver or clamp key specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert.
