The SANDVIK COROMANT 8019606 is a DNMG-style turning insert in the MF chip breaker series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation DNMG 15 04 04-MF 4425 and is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN. This coating stack delivers wear resistance and thermal stability suited to continuous and light interrupted cuts. The insert features a 0.5 inscribed circle diameter, a 0.0156-inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation, making it a direct drop-in for standard DNMG toolholders.
This insert is engineered primarily for cutting steel workpieces, which aligns with the ISO P material classification of the DNMG-MF series. The MF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and medium finishing passes at moderate depths of cut and feed rates, producing consistent chip control and surface finish on low-to-medium alloy steels. Secondary suitability extends to ISO K material groups as noted by the secondary workpiece material code. It is typically installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production turning operations on both manual and automated equipment.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement for standard DNMG toolholders accepting a D-shape insert with an N clearance angle and M tolerance class. Specific holder compatibility should be confirmed against the DNMG 15 04 04 pocket specification in the toolholder manufacturer's catalog.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw when applicable — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cutting operations.
